Pisces soulmate: the signs astrology sets beside the Fish

Cancer and Scorpio swim in the same water, Taurus and Capricorn give it banks, and Virgo waits across the wheel. The tradition's view of each, and what it cannot promise.

A Pisces soulmate, as the tradition imagines it, is someone who can meet the Fish at full depth and still keep a steady hand on the shore. Astrologers look first to the other water signs, Cancer and Scorpio, and then to Taurus and Capricorn, earth signs said to give Pisces something solid. Virgo, the opposite sign, is where tradition places the most intriguing tension. All of this is a language for moods and needs, never a name, so what follows explains each pairing, how astrology writers describe what Pisces longs for, and where a sign simply has nothing to say.

Pisces, the essentials

Pisces
Dates February 19 to March 20
Element and modality Water, mutable
Ruling planet Jupiter (classical), Neptune (modern)
Traditional traits Artistic, compassionate, escapist
Trine (same element) Cancer, Scorpio
Sextile (60 degrees) Taurus, Capricorn
Opposite Virgo

Britannica’s table of the zodiac is the source for dates, element, modality and traits, and Wikipedia’s for the rulers and the opposite sign. Because the Sun’s entry into a sign can move by a day, birthdays around February 18 or 19 and March 20 or 21 sit close to a boundary.

Pisces closes the zodiac, and as the mutable water sign it is associated with flow and adaptation. Astrologers often say the last sign carries a little of every other one, which is their way of explaining why Pisces is pictured as so empathetic and so hard to pin down.

Astrology’s classic partners for Pisces

The tradition never promises anyone a soulmate sign. It compares positions on the wheel, and signs sharing an element sit 120 degrees apart in a trine, the aspect Wikipedia describes as signs that “are very comfortable and compatible with one another.”

Cancer: tenderness on both sides

Cancer is cardinal water, the sign most tied to home in astrology. Paired with Pisces it is usually painted as a gentle, protective match, two people who read feelings before words. Britannica calls Cancer loyal, protective and moody. Fans of this pairing describe a cozy private world, and the caution they raise is that two sensitive signs can both wait for the other to say what is wrong.

Scorpio: depth meets depth

Scorpio is fixed water, the intense and private member of the element. Astrologers tend to describe Scorpio with Pisces as a bond that goes deep quickly, with Scorpio’s focus giving shape to Pisces’s dreaminess. Britannica lists Scorpio as passionate, resourceful and jealous, so the tradition expects devotion here, along with the need to keep possessiveness in check.

Taurus and Capricorn: earth to hold the water

Taurus and Capricorn sit 60 degrees from Pisces, the sextile angle that the classic scheme uses to join water with earth. Cafe Astrology sums up a sextile as a pair who “appreciate each other’s styles in love.” Taurus offers comfort and patience, Capricorn offers structure and a plan. Astrologers often say both give Pisces the steady ground it rarely builds for itself.

Virgo: the opposite sign

Virgo lies 180 degrees from Pisces. The Virgo-Pisces axis is traditionally read as order and surrender, the list and the dream. Cafe Astrology calls opposite signs “fascinating, frustrating, and intriguing” to each other, and this pair is a good example: Virgo notices every detail, Pisces floats above them, and each may envy what comes easily to the other.

Here the publishers disagree more than usual. Horoscope.com, as of September 2026, names Virgo, the opposite sign, as the top love match for Pisces, while AstroStyle points to the water and earth signs as the most compatible group.

The partner Pisces hopes for, in astrology’s words

The descriptions line up closely. AstroStyle writes: “This sign wants to be swept away by romance,” and sums it up with “Simply put: Pisces needs security and freedom.” Astrology Zodiac Signs says Pisces people “need to feel a real connection with their partners in order to open up.” AstrologyK describes them as “super sensitive and very easily hurt; they need partners who can share their feelings while providing stability and structure.”

So the shared core is romance, emotional honesty, and a steadying presence. Where the sources differ is on the balance. AstroStyle notes that Pisces can also be “a hardcore realist,” while AstrologyK leans on sensitivity and tears. It is all belief rather than evidence, and many people born in late February are practical, blunt and quite comfortable being alone.

The tradition can still be a pleasant mirror. The quiz asks where you feel most at home, and a Pisces who picks a quiet stretch of coast is, perhaps, choosing the element they are named after. One who picks city streets after dark may want a little adventure mixed in with the dreaming. When it asks what draws you first, a calm voice and a warm laugh point in different directions, and noticing which you chose is the whole exercise.

Example portrait: a woman, 30s, at home on the coast, drawn to a warm laugh. Paired with a Pisces birthday (February 19 to March 20), answers like these get a reading written for Pisces.

Here is a passage written in the manner of our readings for sample answers: a birthday of March 4, a woman in her thirties, a quiet stretch of coast, and a warm laugh.

Dear Pisces, you chose a quiet stretch of coast, which feels right for the sign of the Fish, and a warm laugh as the thing that reaches you first. In the portrait she is smiling openly, freckles across her cheeks and fair hair loose around her face, the kind of expression that makes a gray afternoon feel lighter. Pisces is often described as feeling everything deeply; maybe part of what you want is someone who makes the deep water feel easy to swim in.

What your birthday adds to the sketch

The quiz asks for the month and day you were born, never the year, and from that finds your sun sign. Born between February 19 and March 20, you get a reading that speaks to Pisces, using the sign as astrologers do, as a tradition to think with. The drawing itself follows your other choices: who we draw, the age they look, the place you call home and what catches you first. The portrait is imagined from your answers, not predicted, and it is not a real person.

What astrology cannot promise a Pisces

Britannica’s zodiac entry does not hedge: “Astrology is not supported by science.” No sign can confirm that a Cancer is right for you, that a Gemini is wrong, or when love will arrive. The matches above are simply words for the depth and steadiness you might value. To see every sign together, read our guide to soulmates by birth date, or visit the pages for the fellow water signs, Cancer and Scorpio. Curious what your own answers might look like? Common questions

Who should Pisces marry?

Pisces should marry a person, not a sign, and ideally one who is kind and steady. Astrology's traditional favorites are the fellow water signs, Cancer and Scorpio, followed by Taurus and Capricorn. Those are conventions of a belief system, so use them to reflect on what you want rather than to choose or rule out anyone.

Who are Pisces in love with?

In astrology writing, Pisces falls for romance itself: a deep emotional connection, gentleness and a partner who feels like a safe harbor. Signs often named are Cancer, Scorpio and sometimes Virgo. Who any real Pisces loves is personal, and no sun sign can tell you.

Who can Pisces not marry?

There is no sign a Pisces cannot marry. Astrology only labels some pairings as harder, chiefly the squares, Gemini and Sagittarius, where each side is said to find the other's needs difficult to read. Harder on paper is not forbidden, and couples of every combination build good marriages.

Who will break Pisces' heart?

Astrology cannot foresee heartbreak for a Pisces or anyone else. Writers call the sign sensitive and easily hurt, and they describe Gemini and Sagittarius, the squares, as the trickiest traditional fits. What actually protects a heart is how people treat each other, which no chart can see.

What is the soulmate zodiac sign for Pisces?

No single sign holds that title. The tradition's answer is usually Cancer or Scorpio, because they share the water element, while Horoscope.com, as of September 2026, picks Virgo, Pisces' opposite sign. The disagreement is the useful part: it shows these lists are opinions within astrology, not facts about you.
